To make navigation as easy as possible, I decided to only use a single page, with popup modals used for anything that otherwise would have required its own page. In desktop mode, I made the main areas of interest have a uniform width with large margins on both sides. This way, the layout of the main content could remain the same on both desktop and mobile view, with only the less important margin sections being sacrificed in the transition so as to not cause unneeded visual clutter on narrower screens.

I stylized the site to make it appear as if it was its own computer desktop screen, with the nav-bar being the taskbar, and each section being a window, complete with buttons on the top right and web address-esque titles. I aimed to give the page a slight Y2K-web look, with rounded edges, bold colors, blocky fonts, and use of dithering for the header and portrait. The margin windows were added to give the site more personality, add to the desktop theming, and pay homage to 2000s era web design found on sites like Geocities.

Retro 3D Model

September, 2025

This 3D model was meant to replicate those found in retro video games made during the early days of 3D graphics. To do this, I set a limit on how many polygons I could use, purposefully giving it a blocky look. The warbling effect seen on the edges of the model as it moves was meant to replicate a similar effect seen on games made for the original PlayStation, as the console lacked the capabilities to calculate fractions when moving vertices. I also used the opportunity to practice properly rigging and animating a humanoid figure. This character was modeled and textured to resemble myself.

Patient Painting

September, 2025

This digital painting of a man in a hospital bed was made to practice my ability to make a complete and fully rendered composition within a limited period of time. The subject of the piece was inspired by “The Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance, an album about a terminally ill man's journey towards his own death. The black and white color scheme with red highlights were chosen to reflect said album's grim themes.

Clay 3D Render

May, 2025

This 3D render was originally made as an asset for a previous version of my website. I used it as an opportunity to test a new set of clay texture nodes I acquired for Blender. The model was made very flat to give the appearance of slabs of clay layered on top of one another, almost giving it the shape of a simple 2D drawing.

Object Study

These are three digital paintings that were made to test new brushes I had acquired, as well as study rendering different textures. To the left of each painting are the respective reference images I used to make each one.

Cat 3D Model

April, 2024

This video is of a 3D model of a cat's head that I created for a university class project. I rendered this model using a cel-shaded (also known as toon-shading) lighting style in order to make the shadows more flat, giving the cat a more colorful, cartoony look.

Brand Mockup

Here are a series of mockup ads using the McDonald's brand. All of these were made in one of my university classes, where the goal of each project was to make different advertisements for a brand while following the brand's style guide as closely as possible.

Fashion Logo

April, 2024

This logo was made during a university class in which I was tasked with working with a fashion-merchandising student in order to create a logo for their own fashion brand. The crossing of the pant legs in the logo was made to resemble the double helix structure of DNA strands.

Shoe Stop Motion

March, 2023

This video is a mock advertisement made for a university video-editing class. The animation was made using stop motion, with every object besides the background being a physical prop that had to be moved each frame.

Spongebo Venus

May, 2022

This is an illustration recreating Sandro Botticelli's painting “The Birth of Venus” using characters from SpongeBob Squarepants. Studying model sheets and other material from the TV show, I aimed to make this parody as accurate to the original TV show's style as possible.

Rat Character

Here is an illustration of a rat character I created. He was made to resemble the way I often doodle rats, just with some added features to give him more personality.

This icon was made during my time at university, picturing two plants intertwining their stems, making a T shape.

These are a series of icons in the shape of different types of beetles. They are based on a ladybug, rhinoceros beetle, and stag beetle.

My name is Thomas Burton, and I am a graphic designer. In 2024 I graduated from Long Island University Post, earning a bachelor's of fine arts degree in Digital Art and Design. My time studying at university helped me grow familiar with all the programs found in the Adobe Suite, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and Premier Pro. This time also helped me to hone my skills with photo and video editing, typography, layout design, illustration, 3D modeling, and web design.
